The Barredo stairs, in the heart of Porto, are a historical link between the Cathedral and the Ribeira, crossing the old Barredo neighborhood. This steep stone access, prior to the opening of the Mercadores, Bainharia and Escura streets, reflects the medieval urbanism of the city. The labyrinthine route, with granite steps flanked by buildings with colorful facades and traditional roofs, preserves traces of the medieval wall and buildings from different eras. The clothes hanging on the facades bear witness to the authentic daily life of the residents. Part of the Historic Center of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Escadas do Barredo offer a genuine experience, where the city's history is manifested in the granite of the walls and in the popular Porto architecture.
